A Kabuki drop is a technique generally used in Theatre and Special Events where a drape or other lightweight fabric is quickly dropped from the ceiling to reveal the stage/performers/product. Drape Kings was an integral part of the unveiling of the new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle that was simultaneously brought to market in New York City and Shanghai. Drape Kings supported Jack Morton Productions with hundreds of feet of Broadway quality pipe and drape event curtain ranging from 5 to 22 feet high, ground supported at New York City’s Chelsea Piers. Drape Kings event drapery featured imagery of beetles travelling across the “drape screen”. At one point, with the help of the Kabuki solenoids reveal system, the beetle appears to crack through the screen sending “shattered glass” to the ground”. On a cue, the Kabuki Drop system released the projection screens with material falling to the floor to reveal the all-new 2012 VW Beetle! It was an exhilarating experience.
